Common questions
Which map files can I import?
GeoTIFF, GeoPDF, Garmin Custom Maps and Google Earth KMZ files, and MBTiles: in the Layers tab, tap Import Map and pick the file. GPX tracks, routes and waypoints go in from the Tracks tab with Import GPX.
Does it work without a signal?
Yes. Maps you import, and Canadian 1:50,000 sheets you download, are on your phone and need no connection. For the web maps, save an area offline before you leave; some providers don't allow saving, and the app tells you when that's the case. The map shows "Offline" when there's no connection.
How do I record a trip?
Tracks → Record → Start recording, and allow location while using the app. Recording carries on with the screen off; tap Stop when you're done. Trips can be exported as GPX files.
Why does the elevation take a moment to settle?
Elevation comes from the phone's barometer, matched to GPS altitude over the first couple of minutes of a recording. After that it stays steady, so climbs aren't thrown off by GPS altitude drift.
Where is my data, and how do I delete it?
Everything stays on your phone: maps, waypoints, trips and settings. Delete items in the app, or delete the app to remove all of it. See the privacy policy for details.
Is it really free?
Yes: no ads, no subscription, no account.
